here comes the sun

I’m standing in faith on that title. It is a gloomy day again. HelL-O-O-O-O-O! Anybody HOME?? Just annie here, trying to wake up the weatherman and let him know this is OCTOBER, the beautiful month Houstonians live for, the one that secretly gets them through the long, hot days of summer, the month that makes up for the wet and nasty cold days ahead, and the one WE DON’T WANT TO MISS! October really is the one reason, if you can’t think of any other, to live in Houston–that is until the last few days, which I must confess, haven’t lived up to my great expectations.

I missed most of yesterday lying in bed fighting a battalion of cold symptoms that looked like it might be a few days before I was back in commission. However, when I woke up this morning, I didn’t want to miss another day that might be our best hope for outdoor air conditioning—a day where the 60ish air swirls around your body and the sun beats hard against a crystalline turquoise sky. Well obviously, the weatherman is asleep at the desk and missed my memo order for a perfect October day. Rain chances are high, and it is still dark at eight in the morning. Closet Kitty was late for breakfast, if that tells you anything.

Seems like I remember a nostalgic post about someone liking rain, but we’ll excuse that lapse of consciousness for now, and get to the real reason I need a pretty day. Spending most of yesterday in bed, I need a “get out of jail free” card quickly before I get cabin fever, along with the other symptoms. I need a pretty day to start my annual Oktoberfest celebration of “I remember why I love Houston” month.

Well, I am showered and dressed, but I may go back to bed for a little while. I am feeling kind of blue. Wished the sky was as ambitious.

  1. Thanks for the good advice, Barbara–hot chocolate sounds yummy, and a good book, and if I turn down the a/c, a soft blanket.
Shonda, sorry you have been “under the weather” with migraines. Those are not fun. I’ll get to the meme on Monday. Thanks for the tag.
Jean, Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow. So glad your weather is pretty for it. Can’t wait to hear about your wonderful meal.
I need to wish Barbara Happy Turkey Day also.
My friend, Beth, just got back from Nova Scotia where she knitted me a fall leaf–no kidding! About the best we can do for a few months.

And Cathy, I’m with you, my siesta, I’m ready to bring on the sweaters and rich textures of fall. Let me know where you find winter. Hmmm. Retail therapy–I have heard that cures colds too!

  2. Hello friend,
I am sooo ready for cooler weather here in hot and sunny Florida – that I took myself out Thursday night for some retail therapy. It is so crazy here in the land of eternal sunshine and heat that fall attire is what is in the stores. So I picked up a couple of sweaters to cozy up in, and we will head north to find some cooler weather!! Take care of yourself! love, Kathy

  3. Sorry to tell you our current weather – blue skies and sunshine! That could change in a flash so I am heading outside with my coffee and warm jacket.
    Feel better soon, Annie.
If it’s any consolation, I am booking to get our studded winter tires on for next week, blah.

  4. Hey Annie,
I hope you get to feeling better soon. I had been in bed for 2 days with a migraine. I don’t like staying in bed either!

When you’re feeling better visit my blog. I tagged you.

    Get well quickly!

    Blessings in Christ–

  5. Dear Annie,

Our weather where I live in Canada is much the same….except the leaves on our trees are falling rapidly!

I hope you will soon be feeling more like yourself, but for now get a nice hot cup of java/hot chocolate, a good book and a cozy blanket and enjoy!

    Take care,

    Blessings
    Barbara
