a mom’s heart

In just a few hours, my baby girl will be home for the holidays. She worked especially hard so she would not have to take a final that was on the day of her brother’s graduation. She made the grade and was exempted from the final, so all five of us will be able to go to Florida to be there for her brother as he graduates with a degree in aeronautical science. She has off the rest of the month, and I will get to spend some precious time with her, and it makes this mama very happy.

My traveler daughter will be home late tomorrow. She goes to “the ends of the earth” in study, sensitizing herself to different cultures and how others live. She is working on her Master’s degree at Oxford and I have missed that girl terribly. I can’t wait to do the girly things with both my daughters this next week. I have no doubt I will shamelessly spoil them as we get pedicures together and spend hours just talking and catching up. I imagine we’ll get in a few therapeutic somersaults too. We cannot take ourselves too seriously.

A week from Monday, my oldest son will graduate from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Florida. We will all be there to say, “Way to go, Greg” as he walks across the stage and gets that long-anticipated degree. Then, he will come home for a little R & R, and we’ll catch up and talk about all kinds of things like his bright future, the hope and joy he brings us, and the exciting times ahead.

All of this makes my heart burst with joy. There is nothing like having all your chicks, no matter how old they are, together again in this overflowing joyful house as we celebrate the coming of our Lord.

The spilling over of love I feel for each of these precious ones still amazes me. It makes me smile! I know it won’t always be this way that we can all be together, so I treasure each moment. It is a short-lived but very sweet gift.

Even as I write, I know some of you won’t have that perfect Christmas you have longed for and my heart breaks for you. I pray our Savior fills your heart to overflowing with His love and takes you to deeper places in Him, which is an eternal gift. May God bless each of you deep in your hearts.
