Next to Easter, Palm Sunday is my favorite celebration of the church calendar. Palm fronds drop before His feet, and He rides in triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It is a day when hearts run the full gambit of the highest praise to the lowest of betrayals of man in the story of Holy Week. It was the one time Jesus allowed His people to worship Him. And they cried, “Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest.” The word “Hosanna” means “God saves us.” The short glimpse of the joyous celebration of what all Eternity will be is quickly transformed to the last supper with His disciples, the Passover fulfilled, the betrayal of the Lamb of God, the sentence, “Crucify him!” and the day God had to look away from His Son as Christ bore our sins.
This Holy Week, let us not forget the journey to the cross that had to take place before our Victory could be won. May He go before us this week as we walk out our own journeys of deliverance. May we never forget His unspeakable Gift and Sacrifice. Sing Hosanna, for He is the God Who saves us. Worthy of all our praises.
