an old song that still brings comfort

How long has it been since you heard this old hymn? We sang it from the Methodist hymnal at my friend’s dad’s funeral yesterday. What a balm of healing it was to sing and believe these words! (If you just want to hear the song, skip the first minute of the video…)
Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
God will take care of you!
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you!

God will take care of you,
Through every day o’er all the way;
He will take care of you;
God will take care of you!

Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you!
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you!

All you may need He will provide,
God will take care of you!
Trust Him, and you will be satisfied,
God will take care of you!

Lonely and sad, from friends apart,
God will take care of you!
He will give peace to your aching heart,
God will take care of you!

No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you!
Lean, weary one, upon His breast,
God will take care of you!

  1. I used to sing that standing on the pew next to my great grandmother at 1st United Methodist Church in Whitney, TX. If I stood on the floor and she held the hymnal so I could see, she could not see it, so I stood on the pew and looked over her shoulder. My great aunt was in the choir, I went to practice with her to learn the songs since I could not read very well at the time. It was a great town for a little girl to roam while visiting her manmaw and great aunts and uncles.

    He indeed takes care of us!

  2. God will take care of you! I love that. You keep introducing me to songs I’ve never heard. I just love them. So simple and true! Hope you are having fun this afternoon!
    Love you,

  3. I still like to sing hymns as well as contemporary song in church. It is my opinion that great doesn’t ever expire no matter how old it becomes. Thanks for sharing this song.
    Love & blessings-
