discipline or delight?

This year I have tried to tuck a few verses into my heart with Beth Moore’s blog and the Siestas. Though I have been remiss in much of it, we have completed 21 verses and are entering crunch time before the “test” in January.

The real tests and benefits of knowing God’s Word come each day. Whether it is an outward resolve to handle a situation in love or an inner calm that settles inside me, there is a delight in hiding ancient words of Life in my heart. There is wisdom. There is peace. If you have an extra few minutes, listen to John Piper extol the virtues of memorizing The Word of the Lord using memorized verses.

Psalm 119:24 “Your testimonies also are my delight; They are my counselors.”

  1. W O W ! ! ! Thanks so much for the link! I feel as though this is yet another depth to memorizing God’s Word

  2. Amen. I’m thinking about asking for a trip to Houston as my Christmas gift. I can’t think of anything I want or need more. I hope to be next to you, sweet sister!
    Love you,
    Angie xoxo

  3. I have found that the verses that He has given me this year to memorize have more than ministered to me during that time and even later. They have been exactly what I needed at the time. God is so amazing and He keeps humbling me over and over and I thank Him for each lesson. Your post was definitely and encouragement to me, as I have trouble pulling the verses back up in my memory. It truly has been a delight and a much, much needed discipline. Blessings on your week end. Love, Mary Lou

  4. Thank you for blessing me with God’s Word so devotedly spoken by John Piper this morning.

    Blessings to you Sweet Siesta.

  5. What encouragement that was to me! I am struggling trying my hardest to memorize Psalm 145. It is not easy for me. I have about 5 verses memorized and will keep working on them for Houston in January. Every month I’ve posted two verses and meditated/memorized them. It is hard but it is so precious repeating them over and over. God is good.

I will extol thee, my God, O King; and I will bless thy name forever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name forever and ever. Great is thy name, and greatly to be praised; thy greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another; and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honor of thy majesty; and of thy wondrous works…

still working on the rest…thanks for the encouragement.
