a day is coming
Jeremiah 30:12 –“This is what the Lord says: ” ‘Your wound is incurable, your injury beyond healing.”
“Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone…”
Even that still doesn’t cover the bases for us. We are hopelessly sin sick without a saving Christ. Our Sunday best is filthy rags before a holy Lord. There is nothing we can do to heal our brokenness, and thus, our separation from God, because His holiness demands purity. Purity will come in the form of a Savior whose blood is like a balm in Gilead that heals the sin-sick soul. Don’t be afraid, Jeremiah 30 tells us many times. He has a plan, a saving and beautiful plan that awaited Israel to reunite them unto Him. Alone we can do nothing. But with Him…what glorious things will be accomplished in and through us.
Jeremiah 31:21 –“Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Take note of the highway, the road that you take.”
Most of the weekend, at Siesta Fiesta, I could have retraced my steps by the trickling pieces of popped corn I has strewn behind me in most of my steps. Even yesterday, I laughed at the car wash because they give away complimentary popcorn, and I looked down and I had dropped a few pieces along the path I had taken. You’d think I was four. I’d like to blame it on the overstuffed bags, but who am I kidding? This particular verse has been a “landmark” verse for me in my path toward Christ. It is so easy to take a wrong turn and be headed in another direction. It is so hard to stay the course. Jesus alone is the Way, the Truth and Life. Without the Way, there is no journey. Without the Truth, we live in darkness. Without the Life, we have nothing but an incurable wound, an injury beyond healing. I think of the verse in “Come Thou Fount” that says “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love. Let Thy Goodness like a fetter bind my wandering heart to Thee.” I just realized this is one of those songs where I sing the wrong word…instead of fetter, I thought it was tether. Hmm. Either one Lord, tie me close to You.
Jeremiah 31:33-34 –“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.”For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
One Day, we will all know which Way to go, seeing Him face to glorious Face. From the least to the greatest, all in the Lord will be healed of our incurable sin-sickness, living in the love and freedom of Christ Himself. What a Day that will be!
